I did it! I quit my full-time marketing job to travel and I couldn’t be more excited!

On October 4th I handed in my resignation and chose to do what I love and what I am passionate about. Travelling and photography.

To make a long story short, I didn’t just quit my job because I felt like going abroad. The position didn’t turn out to be what I signed up for and my role changed too much, too many times. My work made me feel over-worked, stressed, sad and disappointed. I started wondering if this place is really, truly worth staying at. It didn’t take me that long to realize that it isn’t. Life is simply too short and I want to live mine with me in charge!

What now then? Well, my last working day is just before the Christmas holidays and on the 17th of January 2019 we start our travels. By then, we have to arrange for someone to rent our place, pack up all our stuff, get travel insurance and much, much more. The preparations are quite intense, but we are both super excited!

How can we afford to do this? Luckily we both have well paid jobs and saving up is easier if you don’t have to worry about surviving day-in day-out. But this doesn’t mean we don’t sacrifice anything. We sacrifice the savings which would otherwise go towards our future (we planned to buy a house next year!). So a slight change of plans one might say hehe.

Where are we going? We bought a one way ticket to Bali to start with and from there it is not totally decided yet. But we are keen on going to Malaysia, Thailand, Taiwan, Philippines… We will leave our plans open and hopefully everything will work out just fine.

Even though leaving the comfort of having a home, a routine and an income will probably be harder than what we imagine right now, we are ready to tackle whatever comes at us. If we end up coming back home broke and unemployed, so be it! What neither of us want is the regret of not giving it a go.

Have you considered doing the same? Are you doing the same right now? Let me know in the comment section below. Would be fun to see who else is in this boat!
