A Luxury Getaway at G Hotel Gurney

SHARE

We spent a month in Malaysia and even though we lived in a couple of places here, our favorite stay was at G Hotel Gurney in Penang. The chic lobby, contemporary rooms and amenities right to our taste, we felt as spoiled as in our own home back in Sweden! We arrived at the hotel on an early morning flight from Kuala Lumpur and even though it was about 4 hours until check-in, the staff took us to the executive floor lounge, we got our coffees and our room was ready faster than we could sample all the delicious breakfast food.

The Duplex at G Hotel Gurney

After our breakfast at the lounge, we then got escorted to our home away from home for the next two nights. Our room was a treat to the eyes. Coming in you get greeted by huge windows and exposed stylish chandeliers. The name duplex stands for the fact that the room is actually on two levels. On the lower level, we had our living room, a wash-closet and a work desk. On the upper level, we had our bedroom, walk-in closet and bathroom with a bathtub overlooking the lower floor.

After walking around and going ‘wow’ at everything in our room, we finally took a shower and relaxed after an early morning. Would lie if I didn’t say we had a short nap as well. The bed at G Hotel Gurney was just too inviting!

AMENITIES at G HOTEL GURNEY

Pool and Gym

The vibe of the hotel is a true urban oasis and in my eyes, the pool really reflected that 100%! I could just lean there and people-watch for the whole day! On the same floor as the pool (where I could spend all day) is also a fully equipped, extremely large gym (where Mike could spend a whole day). And while I start off this section pretending to be super-healthy, don’t worry – it gets unhealthier later, haha!

Executive Lounge

Now let’s talk about the fun stuff which (in my opinion) make this stay an even more special one. Free cocktails, wine and bubbly from 6-8 pm. Canapés with a heavenly taste and an abundance of choice. The friendly staff. The beautiful views. We spent both evenings here and watched the sun go down with a glass of champagne.

Besides the executive lounge, there is also the G Lounge, an extension of G Hotel Gurney’s main reception, Taste Cafe (where we had breakfast one morning and where lunch and dinner are also served if you choose), Tree Bar, perfect for those who love some happy hour or even the Pool Bar. And it doesn’t stop there. If you wish, you can also take a buggy over to G Hotel Kelawai (the sister hotel) and enjoy a night out with drinks at the rooftop bar Gravity or a tasty dinner at SPOON.

G HOTEL KELAWAI – The sister hotel

On our second day at the hotel, we decided to check out the sister hotel as well. We took the buggy over there and were immediately greeted by their friendly staff and a lobby with gorgeous design details.

We were smart and brought our swimsuits with us as well, because, who would ever skip a dip in a rooftop pool?! Not us! So after a refreshing morning, we were fully prepared to FINALLY leave the hotel and go explore Penang. It was the first time, after 3 months of traveling full-time, that we actually felt refreshed after leaving our hotel!
