Madrid, Day 1

For my birthday this year Mike surprised me with a trip to Madrid. I was really excited about it since I’ve never been to Spain and I couldn’t wait to visit the Spanish capital.

Madrid really exceeded my expectations – the architecture, the food and the sights were exactly what I love seeing in a big city. We stayed there for three days and this is the first part of the three day itinerary.

We took a direct flight with Norwegian from Gothenburg to Madrid and took us around 3 hours to arrive. The plane landed at 17:35, so to make the most out of our evening we took a taxi to our Airbnb, which was right in the city centre. We got lucky and caught the sunset from the room with spectacular views.

We unpacked our bags and decided to take a little walk to Mercado San Miguel, which was just a couple of minutes from the Airbnb. We heard a lot about this place and it’s food, but we would actually say it’s a bit over-priced for what you get. But on the other side, many people recommend this place for it’s seafood and we don’t eat seafood.

After we were done having a couple of tapas here, we decided to take something sweet in another place: Chocolateria San Gines. And we LOVED this place. Sure, the queue was enormous even at 10pm, but these churros are really worth the wait and the hype.

We ate our churros with chocolate and then walked back to the Airbnb to get some sleep and get ready for new adventure in the morning!
